Old-cut Diamonds

An old mine-cut diamond is reminiscent of the past when diamonds were measured by eye and cut by hand. This historic diamond cut is a great choice if you are looking for a diamond that is truly unique, with antique or vintage qualities.

Old cut diamonds, also known as antique-cut diamonds, were popular during the 18th and 19th centuries. These diamonds are cut by hand, meaning that each diamond is unique and has its own distinctive character and charm.

The main difference between old-cut diamonds and brilliant-cut diamonds is that old-cut diamonds typically have a smaller table and larger facets, giving them a unique romantic sparkle. This is because old-cut diamonds were cut with an emphasis on maximizing size and enhancing color and clarity, while the main priority of round brilliant-cut diamonds is to maximize brilliance and shine. You can see the difference in the image below:

If you are looking for something truly special and unique, old-cut diamonds may be the perfect choice. However, good old-cut diamonds can be rare and difficult to find. They are often used in vintage or antique jewelry and can be quite valuable if they are in good condition.

Many of my customers love old-cut diamonds given their unique character and charm that you don’t always find in modern diamonds. Their one-of-a-kind sparkle, warmth, and depth of color contribute to their enduring popularity and are the reason why many people love them today.

I wear my old cut diamond on a daily basis and it is definitely one of my favorite rings. Not only do I love the setting that truly enhances the diamond but I also love the unique personality of the stone.
