How to propose to your girlfriend and make sure she says YES

First, consider how big your budget is. On average, men spend 5,000€ on an engagement ring but you can get really nice rings for less and of course, also fantastic rings for more. The rule of thumb is that the larger the diamond and the higher the quality, the more expensive it is. 

The next thing to consider is what style does your girlfriend like best. Does she have a modern style? Or is she more classic? The vast majority of engagement rings I make are absolutely classic, with a beautiful round center diamond set in a very simple setting. But if your girlfriend prefers something unique, it is also beautiful with a diamond that is not round but maybe oval or cushion cut. I can send photos of a variety of engagement rings which can hopefully both inspire you and help you to make a decision. 

Then you have to decide what color gold you want the diamond set in. Here it is a good idea to look at the jewelry your girlfriend already has. Is she mostly for white gold? Or yellow gold? White diamonds look whitest in white gold as the gold is reflected in the diamond. If you choose a champagne colored diamond it will look best and more colorful when set in yellow gold and the beauty of a pink diamond will be highlighted when set in pink gold.

When you are now looking at your girlfriend’s jewelry, you should also have the ring size measured. You can do this by taking one of her rings and bringing it to a jeweler who can measure it for you, or I can send you a ring gauge that you can use yourself. 

One thing you, as a diamond buyer, have for sure considered is whether a diamond is a good investment at all. And here I can confirm that, yes, if you buy a diamond in a good quality, it is a very good investment indeed. Diamonds in a good quality are always a good but long-term investment, and hopefully your future fiancé will wear the ring for many many years to come. 

You should also consider whether the engagement ring should fit together with the wedding band, because if it should, then we need to set the diamond a little higher so that there is room for the wedding band.

Last but not least, you need to decide whether and which engraving you want in the ring. It takes approximately 3-4 weeks to make the perfect ring which gives you plenty of time to consider the last but most romantic step, how to propose.
