Knowing your ring size can make all the difference when buying or gifting the perfect piece of jewellery. I help many men find their girlfriend’s ring size when they want to buy an engagement ring, for example.
You can always borrow a ring sizer from me and we can measure your ring size together, but if you’re buying a ring as a gift and you want it to be a surprise, here are different ways to measure the ring size.
There are different ways to measure a ring size:
You can do this by using a tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler, and then measure the circumference of your finger.
Or you can measure with a gauge, measuring the diameter, which can then be converted to circumference.
Finally, there are various apps for your phone where you can place your ring on top of it to find the ring size.
Tips for measuring the right ring size:
- Best time to measure: Measure your finger at the end of the day when your fingers are at their average size. Avoid measuring when your hands are cold or warm after exercise.
- If you measure with a tape measure or string, make sure the tape is not too tight.
Understanding European ring sizes.
European ring sizes are measured in millimetres (mm) based on the inner circumference of the ring. Each size corresponds to a specific measurement, making it easier to buy. The average ring size is 53.
- 48 mm = size 48
- 50 mm = size 50
- 52 mm = size 52
- 54 mm = Size 54
- 56 mm = Size 56
- 58 mm = Size 58
- 60 mm = Size 60
- Etc.
Considerations for wider rings:
If you buy a wider ring, consider going up half a size to ensure comfort as the ring may be harder to get over your knuckle.
A few tips:
- Measure your finger several times to confirm the size.
- If you’re buying a ring as a gift, try to find out the recipient’s size discreetly or borrow a ring they already wear on the same finger.
- If you are between sizes, go up to the next full size as it’s more comfortable to wear a ring that’s slightly too big than one that’s too small.
With these simple measuring techniques, you’re ready to find your perfect ring size! Whether you’re buying for yourself or choosing a special gift, accurate sizing ensures that your jewellery fits just right. And remember, if the ring you bought as a gift doesn’t fit perfectly, we will of course adjust it afterwards.
